United Methodist Women

Flame and Cross Logo of UMW

Purpose

United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.

Any woman may become a member if she chooses to join and commit herself to the PURPOSE of the organization. Women of the United Methodist Church are not automatically members of the United Methodist Women. Membership is for those women who wish to participate through giving, prayer, study, action, or service. All Methodist women are welcome and are encouraged to belong. Non-members of the United Methodist Church may also join.

What We Do - Recap of 2024

2024 was another wonderful year for our Trinity UMW. It's a great group of ladies that enjoy spending time together who faithfully attend our meetings and participate in our service projects. If you haven't had the opportunity yet to join us, or have been away for a while, you have an Open Invitation to join us the first Monday of any month at 10:30 in the Fellowship Hall.

We kept busy this year with a variety of activities that included:

  • Pastor Linda hosted us for a delicious brunch in her beautiful home for our 2024 planning and organizing meeting.

  • We traveled to the Riverside Coffee shop at Dixie Lee Junction for a meeting and to support their outreach for hiring and training young adults with disabilities. Since their opening they have continued to increase their hours of operation, and the food and drink is delicious!

  • Spent a very uplifting and informative time at STAR learning about their outreach also to those with disabilities and they save some horses in the process too. So fortunate to have this outreach in our community.

  • In May we traveled, along with our meal for all, to Wesley House to enjoy an afternoon of food, talk and of course Bingo with the Grannies. Always a fun time.

  • Our September Grandma's Attic sale was again a success. We raised over $4,000 which ultimately was distributed back to various local and regional organizations. Thank you to all who helped make the sale so Successful!

  • We purchased and assembled 20 UMCOR Hygiene Kits for Hurricane Helene relief.

  • Terri assembled some Christmas Chapstick gifts for the folks at River Oaks and our members decorated and wrote messages on the inside. We want to thank both Jo Lynn and Loretta who then went to River Oaks and personally distributed them to all the folks there. They enjoyed the many conversations too.

  • We ended the year with our annual Baby shower in honor of Mary and Baby Jesus. All the items donated by our members went again to Susannah's House, a residential program for at-risk pregnant mothers, getting their lives back on track. We also had the Director of Susannah's House as our guest speaker. It was so inspiring to hear how the program has developed over the past ten years. In fact, we were invited to come and tour the facility in 2025. We scheduled our visit for Monday, February 3rd. We will meet at the church at 9:15 and travel together. Hope you will add that date to your calendar. It will be informative and uplifting for sure.

  • Our first meeting of 2025 will be January 6th, at 10:30 am in the Fellowship Hall. Our speaker that morning will be from the Jubilee Project. This is an outreach digging clean water wells for the poor, mostly rural folk in our area. Trinity UMW has previously donated monies for this cause, so we look forward to learning more about the good work they are doing.
We look forward to the opportunities 2025 will offer for us to not only work together but to do good works for others too!
Thank you to all who have made our group a huge success. Happy New Year!
    -Jo Alison Cortez, UMW Co-President
